{"id":1743,"date":"2026-06-04T12:27:26","date_gmt":"2026-06-04T12:27:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/esport.com.ng\/?p=1743"},"modified":"2026-06-04T12:27:26","modified_gmt":"2026-06-04T12:27:26","slug":"man-city-ready-to-stop-arsenal-signing-villa-star-after-open-verdict-on-transfer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/esport.com.ng\/?p=1743","title":{"rendered":"Man City ready to &#8216;stop&#8217; Arsenal signing Villa star after &#8216;open&#8217; verdict on transfer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div><!-- Article Start --><\/p>\n<p>Man City could attempt to block Arsenal signing Aston Villa attacking midfielder Morgan Rogers this summer, according to reports.<\/p>\n<p>The Gunners are looking to strengthen their side in forward areas with a left winger and potentially a striker thought to be on their shortlist of signings.<\/p>\n<p>Mikel Arteta has guided <strong>Arsenal<\/strong> to the Premier League title and runners-up in the Champions League this season \u2013 but there still feels like lots of room for improvement, especially in attacking areas.<\/p>\n<p>And Rogers is one player now heavily linked with a move to the Premier League champions as Arsenal \u2013 <strong>who he is reportedly \u2018open\u2019 to joining<\/strong> \u2013 look to get ahead of their rivals for the Aston Villa star.<\/p>\n<p>However, former Man Utd chief scout\u00a0Mick Brown \u2013 who is still well-connected in the Premier League \u2013 reckons Man City could \u201cstop\u201d Arsenal from completing a deal.<\/p>\n<p>Brown told <em>Football Insider<\/em>: \u201cIt wouldn\u2019t surprise me to see Rogers go back to Man City.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:<span> <\/span>Arsenal desperate not to join the worst ever Premier League champion transfer XI<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019ve been keeping a close eye on him since he left a few years ago, first at Middlesbrough and now at Villa, and he looks to have brushed off any concerns.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reason he was allowed to leave City in the first place is because they had concerns about his attitude and commitment, but he\u2019s eased those concerns now.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s going to be a busy summer for Man City, there are players who could be on their way out and will need replacing, especially in those forward areas.<\/p>\n<p><smartframe-embed customer-id=\"598d587f82f0613dc60f89d2daf94a61\" image-id=\"ARCH82802_00026996\" style=\"width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 100%;\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith Guardiola leaving, it looks like there could be a lot of change. It looks like Enzo Maresca will be coming in, so it could depend on how he feels.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut from a City point of view, when you see Arsenal are interested in Rogers, or PSG, they won\u2019t want one of their former players to go and strengthen their rivals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf he\u2019s going to be available, they will want to beat those other clubs to him and get a deal done first, because it strengthens them while stopping Arsenal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRogers will go to the World Cup with England and we\u2019ll see what happens after that, because if he has a good tournament, all of these clubs will be keen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Former <em>Sky Sports<\/em> presenter Richard Keys insists that he is \u201cnot going anywhere near Arsenal\u201d if he is Rogers this summer.<\/p>\n<p>Keys said on social media this week: \u201cI know Villa can be \u2018resolute\u2019 as well but if I\u2019m Morgan Rogers I\u2019m not going anywhere near Arsenal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe should ask Eze how he feels about his move. I guess if he did sign he could do that sitting next to him on the bench.\u00a0Football\u00a0is to be enjoyed not endured.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:<span> <\/span>Jacobs confirms Arsenal \u2018are in talks\u2019 to make first summer signing as fee is revealed<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Rogers has been in brilliant form for Aston Villa this season as they won the Europa League and finished in the top four of the Premier League.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Shearer: Rogers should star ahead of Bellingham for England<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>And England legend Alan Shearer has urged Thomas Tuchel to start Rogers at the World Cup ahead of Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham.<\/p>\n<p>Shearer told <em>The Sun<\/em>: \u201cAt the minute, Rogers has maybe just edged it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI mean Bellingham\u2019s had one or two injury problems and Rogers has been able to go in there and do very well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, I\u2019d think it\u2019ll be him that will start. And we\u2019ll have to see what happens with Bellingham.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRogers has been fantastic. He\u2019s a really, really talented guy. And he\u2019s earned the right to go into a World Cup and hopefully do very, very well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m a big fan of his.
