{"id":1615,"date":"2026-05-29T14:25:43","date_gmt":"2026-05-29T14:25:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/esport.com.ng\/?p=1615"},"modified":"2026-05-29T14:25:43","modified_gmt":"2026-05-29T14:25:43","slug":"iraola-holding-out-for-reds-job-amid-slot-uncertainty-as-he-doesnt-want-crystal-palace-move","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/esport.com.ng\/?p=1615","title":{"rendered":"Iraola holding out for Reds job amid Slot &#8216;uncertainty&#8217; as he &#8216;doesn&#8217;t want&#8217; Crystal Palace move"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div><!-- Article Start --><\/p>\n<p>Andoni Iraola is holding out for a move to either Liverpool or Bayer Leverkusen as talks with AC Milan are \u2018not really progressing\u2019 and he \u2018doesn\u2019t want\u2019 to move to Crystal Palace.<\/p>\n<p>Iraola left Bournemouth after guiding the Cherries into the Europa League by finished sixth in the Premier League.<\/p>\n<p>The Basque manager\u2019s burgeoning reputation has seen him linked with a host of top jobs including Chelsea, but with Xabi Alonso taking the reins at Stamford Bridge he\u2019s taking time to consider his options.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>BBC Sport<\/em> claim<\/strong> that Palace are \u2018awaiting Iraola\u2019s answer\u2019 after making him a proposal that included \u2018assurances that he will be permitted significant influence over the recruitment operation\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Palace believe they have done everything they can to \u2018convince Iraola that they can provide the platform for him to continue building his reputation\u2019 and \u2018all that\u2019s left is Iraola\u2019s approval\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Reports in Italy have claimed that an \u2018agreement\u2019 has already been reached between Iraola and Palace after AC Milan \u2013 who are also keen after sacking Massimiliano Allegri for failing to qualify for the Champions League \u2013 were told that Iraola would prefer to remain in the Premier League and is attracted by the Palace \u2018project\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Sky Sports<\/em> have now confirmed<\/strong> that \u2018talks with AC Milan are not really progressing\u2019 but also claim Iraola is \u2018no more likely to join Crystal Palace\u2019 on the basis of those stalled negotiations.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s claimed that Iraola \u2018doesn\u2019t want to leave sixth-placed Bournemouth for 15th-placed Palace\u2019 even given the Eagles\u2019 Conference League triumph on Wednesday which grants them entry into the Europa League next season.<\/p>\n<p>Bayer Leverkusen \u2013 who are on the lookout for a new manager \u2013 and Liverpool are the clubs that Iraola \u2018is interested in joining\u2019, the report concludes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ MORE: Liverpool should sack Arne Slot and here are a full 20 reasons why<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><smartframe-embed customer-id=\"0fab81ce12e48a0794275e1d82449fb1\" image-id=\"1077869214\" style=\"width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 100%;\"\/><\/p>\n<h2>Slot future still \u2018uncertain\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>Arne Slot has overseen a disastrous campaign at Anfield after guiding Liverpool to the title in his first season in charge, but <strong>reports have until now suggested that Reds\u2019 dramatic slump won\u2019t cost Slot his job<\/strong> as the club chiefs accept there is plenty of mitigation for the poor performances and results.<\/p>\n<p>But <strong>a report from <em>The Athletic<\/em> detailing Liverpool\u2019s turbulent season<\/strong> has revealed that doubts over his future remain as \u2018there\u2019s much for the hierarchy to ponder after such a torrid campaign\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s claimed that the arrival of Etienne Reijnen is \u2018expected\u2019 to join Slot\u2019s backroom staff from Feyenoord after he was denied a work permit to complete the move two years ago.<\/p>\n<p>His arrival would \u2018effectively confirm Slot is staying put\u2019 but until that\u2019s confirmed \u2018a degree of uncertainty remains\u2019 over the manager\u2019s future at the club as it\u2019s claimed several Liverpool stars weren\u2019t pleased with their specific roles last season.<\/p>\n<p>Dominik Szoboszlai \u2018wasn\u2019t happy about having to fill in at right-back\u2019, Curtis Jones \u2018was frustrated that he didn\u2019t get the extended run of games in midfield that he craved\u2019 and Alexis Mac Allister \u2018felt that he had been unfairly singled out for criticism\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>A wider group of Reds players were \u2018angered\u2019 by suggestions on social media that they had \u2018too much time off and didn\u2019t train enough\u2019 when the schedule was the same as it was the season before when they won the title. They believed, like Slot, that the issue wasn\u2019t their match fitness but the injuries which forced available players to play more regularly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou had all these tricky individual situations with the collective issues on top,\u201d a dressing-room source told The Athletic. \u201cThere was so much negativity, so much adversity and it\u2019s been too much for a lot of players.
