When does the 2026\/27 Premier League season start?<\/h2>\n

The 2026\/27 season is due to start on Saturday August 22<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

That is a week later than the 25\/26 season, to help player recovery following the 2026 World Cup.<\/p>\n

An August 22 start day is 89 days after the end of the 25\/26 campaign and 33 days after the World Cup final on July 19.<\/p>\n

When does the 2026\/27 Premier League season end?<\/h2>\n

The Premier League has confirmed the final match round will be played on Sunday May 30, 2027<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

All 10 fixtures will kick off at the same time and be shown live on Sky Sports<\/em>.<\/p>\n

That date is a week before the 2027 Champions League final on June 5.<\/p>\n

When are the 26\/27 Premier League fixtures out?<\/h2>\n

The 2026\/27 Premier League fixtures will be released on Friday June 19 <\/strong>at 10am.<\/p>\n

In previous seasons, the opening game has taken place on the Friday of the opening weekend, but the final schedule and picks for television broadcast will be announced in due course.<\/p>\n

What will the Christmas schedule be?<\/h2>\n

The 26\/27 season will consist of 33 weekends and five midweek match rounds, though the full schedule will be confirmed in due course.<\/p>\n

Only one Premier League game was available for live broadcast on Boxing Day last season but December 26 this year falls on a Saturday so fans can expect a busier slate of top-flight matches this time around.<\/p>\n

The Premier League says that over the Christmas and New Year period, no two match rounds will take place within 60 hours “to address the congested Christmas and New Year schedule within the expanded international calendar”.<\/p>\n

How many games will be live on Sky Sports?<\/h2>\n

Just like in the bumper 25\/26 season, Sky Sports <\/em>will show a minimum of 215 live Premier League matches as part of its current four-year TV deal.<\/p>\n

Sky Sports has first pick of matches each week and will continue to show multiple games at 2pm on Sunday on a number of weekends.<\/p>\n

The winner of the Championship play-off final between Hull and Middlesbrough will complete the Premier League 2026\/27 line-up.<\/p>\n

Burnley and Wolves were relegated in 2025\/26, with West Ham or Tottenham bidding to avoid joining them.<\/p>\n

When does the summer transfer window open?<\/h2>\n

The summer transfer window opens on Monday June 15<\/strong> and closes on Monday August 31<\/strong> – nine days after the season starts – at a time to be confirmed.<\/p>\n

When do the cup competitions start?<\/h2>\n

The Carabao Cup will start for EFL clubs on the weekend of August 7-9 but dates for the later rounds have not yet been confirmed.<\/p>\n

The FA Cup dates are also still to be confirmed, though the third round usually takes place in early January.<\/p>\n

Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United and Aston Villa have secured Champions League football, with a fifth spot – currently held by Liverpool – still to settle.<\/p>\n

By virtue of England’s strong UEFA coefficient score, all five teams will avoid any July and August qualifying and play-off rounds and progress straight to the league phase, which runs from September 8-10 to January 27, 2027.<\/p>\n

Europa League and Conference League places will be confirmed on the final day of the 25\/26 Premier League season, with several sides still in contention.<\/p>\n

The Europa League league phase starts on September 16\/17 and the Conference League league phase begins on October 15.<\/p>\n

Is there a Club World Cup this year?<\/h2>\n

No – the World Cup instead takes centre stage this summer.<\/p>\n

An expanded 32-team Club World Cup, won by Chelsea, took place for the first time in 2025 and will run every four years.<\/p>\n
